Positive Functions of the Undeserving Poor: ironic isn't it

According to Herbert J. Gans in his article positive functions of the undeserving poor thoses who are part of the lower class contribute to society...this is related closely to Durkheim theory (sorry if i spelled his name wrong lol) that everyone and thing has its own role in society now even if some of these "functions" the poor do in society may be seen as positive like the taking of some jobs over others but the tittle also shows the inherent contradiction in the stratification system that these things that come from it are positive it also allows other factors that Durkheim and other theorist overlooked like what role what racism play in this system or the role gender plays and now only how these are perceived but how stereotypes are placed to allow the not so positive parts of being poor in society...this type of foundation for thinking of the poor also doesn't want us to attempt to solve for the negative effects of poverty and these reactions would stop the effort to deconstruct poverty witch is probably more bad than good...it expands racial and hierarchy's in society based on a bunch of different constructs and the way people look at the poor...and you also must question what position this outlook comes from is it one from privilege or one from poverty...ask yourself or ask a person in poverty is it all positive ??
